A large-scale unique French 18th century giltwood mirror encapsulating a naturalistic and highly individual design. The later central rectangular plate within a frame of exuberantly growing narrow leaves and flowers surmounted by a huge shell and rocaille cartouche, with smaller versions on the bottom corner and center. The vitality and naturalism of the frame design retains an elegance and refinement as well as vivaciousness within its clear composition. The elaborate carving plays with matt and polished gilded surfaces, the whole a statement of strength, elegance and sparkle.
